I have been making jerky for over 20 years now. My mom was the one who actually taught me. When I was a kid, she would bring out her little dehydrator and whip up a marinade and bam... Jerky. It was like magic to me.
As a young adult, I was making jerky for myself to enjoy. I would bring it to eat while I bowled at Oak Tree Lanes in Diamond Bar, CA. I would bust out a little quart size bag of jerky and snack on it while I bowled. But every time I would go up to bowl, my friends would attack that bag like a bunch of vultures!! I would get angry, because jerky takes tons of time to make and isn't cheap. I would tell them to step off!! They responded, "We'll buy some, just bring us our own bags." That was the beginning of JERK Jerky.
Fast forward 20 years... I worked as a Computer Teacher for a K-8 school for a few years. I thought I would be a Computer Teacher for the rest of my life, because I loved my job and the kids. But we all lost our jobs when our school closed down. The founder of our school was accused of money laundering. So I have been trying to figure out what to do since...
The evolution of JERK Jerky within the last year has been crazy. I went from zip lock bags with little labels, to 3 different types of packaging in the past 4 months. Different flavors. New Labels. New Logo. More Customers.
Thank you for your support. I do this out of the love of food. The money isn't great, but it's enough. It makes me happy that you're happy. Damn I'm cheesy.
